Welcome to A Folk Song A Day!

2015
02.04

Thanks for visiting A Folk Song A Day. Here you can browse the 365 songs that Jon Boden recorded in a mammoth project back in 2010-2011 along with introductions to each song written by Simon Holland and many comments from followers of the original project.

If you are looking for a particular song you can use the search box to your left, or you can view an alphabetical list of all 365 songs here. Monthly albums are available to download from iTunes and Amazon. You can follow daily postings of the songs on Twitter and Facebook.

The aim of the project was to provide a resource for anyone interested in taking up social folk singing. Let us know how you get on!

After all one only hears the songs once a year so always welcome.

Hi folks, I know a lot of you know the above very well indeed, but this post will be ‘sticky’ and therefore stick to the top of the page for a while as we have a little bit of a go at drumming up some renewed interest. As each year has seen people discover AFSAD for the first time, hopefully there will be a few new regulars who might be tempted to join the comments and threads. I think I’ve got the spam under manners and a bit of general TLC will follow. I will try and respond to all of the regulars as we go round. Meanwhile set the clocks again as the whole lot is scheduled well into 2015. It’s good to be back.

  3. I wondered what happened. Welcome back.

  4. Jane Ramsden says:

Nicely expressed, Skyman. It’s good to have you back as well as be back. Will share the above with a few folky friends and sites, and try to find new research as we go along.

I can’t believe it……….Cold Blow has come round again and I still haven’t put my version on Youtube…despite several threats to do so.

  6. Simon says:

Thanks Jane and hi to everyone especially Michelle in NYC – hopefully you’ll enjoy the site as it unfolds again and be tempted to keep commenting. It’s good to be back. I will try to get to all of those links and things, but bear with me as it might take me some time. we have a few new ideas and features to introduce too. Plus I might need to update the back end (Ooer, missus!), which could be a recipe for a twitchy day or two. I may well come round to some of the regulars for pointers to things that need attention.

  7. Jane Ramsden says:

Ye Gods! I see Muzza has now shrunk with age as well as being old Muzza! ‘Give over,’ as we say in Yorkshire! You’re just pulling my plonker! Hahahahaha!

Bet all of my previous links in comments have fallen over, Skyman, but had a few ‘likes’ on FB for advertising the re-run of AFSAD.

Love this song, esp. since heard Eliza Carthy sing it live, but looking forward to Muzza’s version on YouTube!

  8. Jane Ramsden says:

PS My last comment refers to Cold Blow And The Rainy Night.. I must give up the late night shift! It’s not doing me any good! Lol.

  9. John Bryson says:

Just surfing the web and suddeny discovered ‘The Return of AFSAD’ – great news, good to have this back

  10. Jane Ramsden says:

Hello John! Sooo glad you’re back aboard! Happy Val’s Day! Lol.

  11. Sarah says:

    Fantastic, what a nice surprise!

  12. John Bryson says:

Thanks Jane, just going through the tracks on this damp Monday afternoon, great to hear them again

  13. Owen Ralph says:

Is there any way the full archive of song notes could be kept available the whole year round? There have been several times I’ve popped back to this site wanting to read up on a particular song but have found I’d have to wait a few months for it to come around again. With all the useful information and song discussion contained on this site it’s a shame that it’s not consistently available

  14. Jane Ramsden says:

Owen, Simon will advise, but I thought you were able to access all on here previously via the Archives (see top right above), just not on a daily rolling programme throughout the year as now.
Anyway, at the end of year one, I made an archive of all the main notes/comments, links (tho some may be broken now) and some of the funny exchanges for myself, mainly because I was fearful of losing all the educative material if the project got taken down. It does not include the actual songs, which are still available to buy from Amazon, but I can put the notes on a memory stick for you if you want and send it to you. You could maybe get your address to me via Simon – I am happy for him to give you my email address to facilitate – or by a private message on Facebook.

  15. Mellissa says:

Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up.
The words in your article seem to be running off the screen in Chrome.
I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with internet
browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know.
The style and design look great though! Hope you get the problem fixed soon.

    Thanks

Have a look at my blog post … books on how to be an event planner (Mellissa)

  16. Simon says:

Sorry folks, we’ve had some problems, mostly to do with Spam. Fingers crossed, the new tool we have added will sort it and we should be up and running properly.

  17. Jane Ramsden says:

Yeh! Thankee Simon. Muzza was just saying end of an era to me this morning on email. Will tell him era is back!

  18. Tricia Davies says:

Still enjoying A Folk Song a day in lockdown, thank you foe reminding me of songs I know, as well as introducing me to those I have yet to learn.
