With regret the podcasts are no more. We maintained these throughout the year of the project, but the process of uploading the music, maintaining and restting the schedule daily is simply too much work for us to do it all over again. Whilst the future of AFSAD 2 is still to be resolved we have decided to make the tracks from that first year available again here for you to stream each day and we all hope you will keep coming back, especially if you missed the start. You can read the original comments, but also feel free to add should you so wish. Even if you have been with us from the start it will be revealing to find out whether your opinions have changed with the benfit of experience or hindsight.

New tracks from A Folk Song A Day are available as a podcast from iTunes and through a regular RSS feed reader (such as Google Reader) or podcatching software (such as Juice). You can of course also visit this site each day to listen to every new track. (Please note that we have to manually update the podcast everyday so there are rare occasions when there will be a delay in episodes appearing). To subscribe to the podcast via iTunes, click the ‘Download on iTunes’ button below.

Download on iTunes
Once iTunes has opened and loaded the podcast page, click on the ‘Subscribe Free’ button below the picture of Jon. Once subscribed each time you open iTunes any new podcasts episodes available will be downloaded automatically.

To subscribe via an RSS Reader (such as Google Reader) or podcatching program, simply enter the following feed URL: http://www.afolksongaday.com/podcast/podcast_feed.xml

At the end of every month we’ll be releasing an album of that months tracks and they’ll no longer be available to stream from this site.

  2. Daisy says:

The podcast link is giving me an error – No Such Resource. (via iTunes)

  3. Daisy says:

Ah well, same link is working now, must have been a short-term error.

  4. SRD says:

The list of downloadable mp3s seems to have stopped at Rain It Rains. Are the rest going to be made available?

  5. Paul Woods says:

I just realise my iTunes default settings for podcasts were set to delete after playing once. 80(= Any way I can get again the songs I’ve now lost? And any plans to release the whole caboodle on CD when it’s all been made available online?

  6. admin says:

    Paul,
For the time being you will only be able to stream the older tracks from this site, but all of the tracks for the month of July will be available to buy from your preferred digital retailer early in August. You’ll be able to get all 31 tracks as a bundle for around £7.99 (possibly cheaper at some stores.) The tracks will also be available individually should you not require them all and this arrangement will follow suit through to the end of the project at the end of June next year. At the time of writing there are no plans for physical CD releases, although this may change.

  7. Kasper Loopstra says:

Just to post that I’d love a physical CD release, maybe as a deluxe box set, complete with a songbook. It’d be a great resource for those trying to learn the songs, especially when living abroad where pub sessions would be difficult to find.

  8. Becka Weston says:

I can’t subscribe to this podcast! Surely there should be the new collection for September available for subscription?

  9. Anne Payne says:

My itunes hasn’t come up with new tracks for the last couple of days – am I the only one or are other people having the same problem?

  10. Ann S-G says:

Like Anna Payne, my iTunes hasn’t updated either even when I try to force it. Can Admin confirm if there’s a problem or has the daily download been discontinued on that site? And if it’s reinstated will we be able to download late September tracks into October or will that also be an issue?

  11. Tim F says:

At the risk of building a “me too” thread I’m also not getting the songs on iTunes. The last one to get through was Noah’s Ark Shanty. Hope it’s just a minor blip – this is a fantatstic effort.

  12. Becka Weston says:

I sorted my previous problem, but like the last three posters…Noah’s Ark Shanty is the latest on iTunes. Hope it’s sorted though, am loving it.

  13. Fred Cojones says:

Like the iTunes users I am a Juice user and have not got anything after Noah’s Ark Shanty

  14. Danilo says:

I downloaded the new tracks via Google reader

  15. Fred Cojones says:

It’s all sorted now as far as Juice is concerned – this is one of the very best things on the web and I am enjoying it immensely – we sing along in the car and it makes journeys go so much more quickly!

  16. Tim F says:

All is well on iTunes as well.

  17. Colin Brades says:

Is there any reason the September MP3 album has not become available via Amazon?

  18. Simon says:

Sorry Colin and anyone else for that matter, but there is a problem with the delivery to Amazon at the moment and we’ve had to re-supply the files. Hopefully this will be rectified pronto, but it is available everywhere else.

  19. DAVID HARRIS says:

When I try to access the podcast subscription I get a message saying “Your request could not be completed, the item you have requested is not currently available in the uk store” this has happened for the last few days before that it was fine.

  20. admin says:

    Hi David,

We’re working on fixing this issue, iTunes have removed the podcast from their store for an unknown technical reason, previous subscribers should still be OK with downloading new episodes but for new subscribers the podcast isn’t currently available. We hope to have this fixed in the next couple of days. Thanks for bearing with us. Ben

  21. Geoff says:

    Hi Ben,
You seem to have got things sorted out! Thanks very much, I’m all up to date again.

    Geoff

  22. DAVID HARRIS says:

Yep!! All working fine again now, thanks very much.

    Dave

  23. Joe Offer says:

The URL for the Podcast feed is http://www.afolksongaday.com/podcast/podcast_feed.xml

You can past that URL into the “subscription” box of a media player like Winamp, and it will handle things quite nicely. If you go to that URL in some browsers (like Google Chrome), you’ll get a bunch of text on the screen that won’t make much sense to you. In other browsers (like Internet Explorer), you’ll get a nice page of links for downloading MP3 files.

Each MP3 has a spoken greeting from Jon. If you don’t want the spoken part, you can buy MP3 downloads at iTunes or emusic.com or Amazon, or a number of other places. For some reason, emusic.com does not have July or November, although it does have August, September, October, and December. Amazon has November, but not July.

  24. Joe Offer says:

Alternatively, You can PASTE that URL into the “subscription” box, and you’ll get far better results.
    -Joe-

  25. Mike New says:

not had any pod casts for a couple of days now. Is there something missing?
    Mike

  26. elfpix says:

Missing my daily dose. Hope being on tour isn’t going to mess with the flow too much.

  27. Shelley says:

    It always catches up eventually!

  28. Mike New says:

… and it has, even Bonuses must be a sorry! keep ‘em coming

  29. Mike New says:

Turtle Dove released 25 March. I cannot find anywhere the lyrics to this song Jon sings. Can anyone out there help please. I have checked all the links (I think) but they have not taken me to the words he sings!

    Regards
    :-)

  30. Donna says:

My subscription isn’t updating (has been fine since the beginning) and has an error message that says the url is wrong – any ideas? I’d hate not to be updating this great service!!!

  31. Mike New says:

Seems to be back on line now although the image is still missing for April. Can Admin fix please?!

    regards

  32. Mike New says:

Hi Jon saw Bellowhead in Basingstoke on Saturday! What a performance my ears have just stopped ringing/singing! You sang a song, I think it was called Carnival Girl? Any chance that this will appear on Podcast. If not where/on which album have you recorded it?

Regards (looking forward to the Spiers Boden gig at Nettlebed soon and see you there)

  33. Ron Coe says:

    Hi.

I am unable to download track 316 “Bonny Bunch of Roses”. I have tried about ten time and each time I get a message that an unknown error has occurred (-39). Is there anything you camn do your end to enable the download.

I am really enjoying the series and shall suffer withdrawal symptons come the end of June.

  34. nev perry says:

Re: kasper loopstra this is good idear about the cd set and book not everyone rates itunes it certainly depends on connections and equipment being in good order. I have only just recently found this site so i have truly missed out here still a cd set and book will more than make up for my loss.

  35. Jane Ramsden says:

With you Nev & Kasper, and I did not rate iTunes either, so deleted it off my old pc afore this project started & now I have a swishy new laptop without it as well! Being not too techie-whizz, I did not understand about RSS feeds, and still do not, but am getting there! Is the none-techie-whizz issue/lack of interest in the same the reason why more people have not uploaded themselves singing to this project? A lot of people on here are evidently singers, so not shy, but only a few have posted themselves singing. It would have been good to see/hear even more. I’m trying to have a go missen, but for me – non-techie, non-singer, non-instrumentalist, non-reader of music even – it’s Herculean!…. and probably would appear so to everyone else’s ears if I managed it… hahahaha!

  36. Mike New says:

Hi all. I found “Carnival Girl” (my comment 4 may refers). It is in fact Fakenham Fair! How daft am I; Podcast of 7 Sept 2010.

  37. Rich says:

how come you’re not podcasting the old songs again? i joined in late first time round

  38. Alex says:

I’ve noticed that the podcast hasn’t been updated since “Fortune Turns the Wheel” on June 23. Will there be no more podcast updates? Or is someone on holiday and they’ll restart when they get back?

Really hoping to be able to listen to more,
    Alex.

  39. Simon says:

Alex I have posted in several places that the podcasts will not be redone I’m afraid. You will be able to stream the songs daily here, but there is too much work involved in setting up the podcasts to justify another year of doing that. Sorry. I’m going to change the header at the top of the page to make this clearer and apologise if the message didn’t get through. Anyway, I hope you will continue to return here if you missed them first time around as it’s well worth it.

  40. Espanyolgas says:

Kasper Loopstra, it may not be the right abroad for you but there is now a regular singing session in Barcelona.

  41. Bartholomew Day says:

    Gutted!

Just changed phones and the podcast which was running fine on my previous phone hasn’t transferred over to the new one and therefore I’m now in the wilderness. I know Simon has said time and time again that the podcast isn’t working and I do understand that, but is there any way to get me reinstated to where I was before technology consipred against me?

I’m loving the project (even though I’m a year behind) and these last few morning’s journey into work has been a far duller place without a jaunty song in my headphones.

Thanking you in anticipation of your ability to work magic!

@Jane Ramsden… your post got me thinking… I might have a go at Yellow Roses and post it ;-)

  42. Simon says:

Bartholomew, I’m sorry I can’t help with the podcasts, but I hope you’ll stick around and continue to add comments here. This one got stuck in the pending file but hopefully as I’ve approved it others will get through straight away. I will keep an eye on things to make sure. I’m afraid the only alternative to these streams now will be to buy the tracks or monthly albums.

  43. R says:

ever thought you could re-up all the songs that were there originally in one go? i know you used to delete the old ones, why don’t you put them all up and leave them there?
