Well it’s not the best photo, but the point was to try and show that there was a fair crowd gathered post gig for Jon’s communal sing and the resultant recording of Hanging Johnny can be found on the live page. Like the photo, it’s not the best quality ever, but that’s not the rationale for that either.
As for the gig, I really enjoyed it. The Floodplain material is great with Sam Sweeney, Rob Habron and Paul Sartin as well as Jon himself all singing and able to switch between instruments with alarming ease. Rick Foot provides the bass anchor, also manning the twin phonographs. I confess I missed the start due to what I can only describe as “a bit of a cock-up on the catering front.” I was further riled by the ridiculous entry rigmarole and being refused admittance with drink in hand despite the plastic container in was put in for that purpose (what is it with venues these days?) There was a nice mix of material made familiar by this project. I won’t spoil it for those going to later shows and suffice to say there were some very interesting arrangements. The post gig sing was spirited and exactly what was expected and as you’ll see, well attended too. I urge you to make any of the gigs you can as the show is a treat.
