Jon,
My 1st listen today. Great idea!
Topical point- BBC News website, today, has piece on 19th century ship found on Northwest Passage (Canada) abandoned while searching for Lord Franklin’s expedition.
What about covering “Lord Franklin”
You’ve got a fan.
Jimmy
Child Morris!
Well, for me it is ‘Tha’ Lowks A Proper Swell Lass’. Just stood out a mile.
Across the Line is still my favorite for July.
I understand why you’re going to start taking songs down, but please don’t do it a month at a time – it wouldn’t be fair for Tom Padget only to have one day in the spotlight! How about taking down all of *June*’s songs to start with, and then operating a “one in, one out” policy, so that July 1st goes down at the same time that August 1st goes up? Just a thought.
Sorry, it can’t be done. I’ve just had a cursory glance through the list for July and each time I look at one I think “Why isn’t that in the list?” Ok, because it has less page views, but a page view doesn’t mean the song is liked. Some of the songs on the list are those that have been more contentious so may well have been viewed (listened to) simply to see what all the fuss was about.
I’m inclined to agree with Phil’s point of view.
Rambling sailor gets my vote but yellow roses comes a close 2nd. I think it pips the post for me since I’m sure I know the tune from Morris Dancing cirlces.
I’d go for any Child ballad
I must admit I’m a bit disappointed that the “top seven” only includes two unaccompanied songs. Looking back at the original programme for this series, I hope Jon *doesn’t* take this as a cue to give the people what they want!
Voted for “A Blacksmith” but still prefer Across the Line
My favourites were originally Rose In June and Danny Deever. I could have been tempted to vote for Mercedes Benz simply because of the contentiousness of it all. Still a cracking song, but not Jon’s finest rendition here. Blood-y Gardener and Banks of Red Roses made great impact, but I’m with Phil on Child Morris. Pity it’s not in the list. Likewise Tom Padget, so it’s gonna have to be A Blacksmith Courted Me!
I’m going to join Vivien and mention ‘Tha’ Lowks A Proper Swell Lass’ again, since that really is my favourite up to now. Danny Deever is a close second, so I’ll vote for that one in the poll…
